University of California - Los Angeles Professor Awarded: American Academy of Neurology Stroke Achievement Award

ST. PAUL, MN - Chelsea S. Kidwell, MD, a University of California - Los Angeles assistant professor, has been chosen to receive the 2002 American Academy of Neurology Michael S. Pessin Stroke Leadership Prize.
Kidwell will accept the award on Wednesday, April 17, during the 54th American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado. The Michael S. Pessin Stroke Leadership Prize is awarded to emerging neurologists who have strong interest in the field of stroke research. The prize is endowed by family, friends and colleagues of Dr. Pessin. Dr. Michael Pessin was an advocate and practitioner of early intervention and proactive treatment for stroke.
"I am delighted and honored to be a recipient of the Michael S. Pessin Stroke Leadership Prize," said Kidwell. "It is extremely gratifying to be recognized by my peers in stroke neurology."
Regarding the benefits of her research Kidwell stated "Employing diffusion-perfusion magnetic resonance imaging to select patients for acute therapies has the potential to extend the time window for treatment allowing a greater number of patients to be treated."
The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 18,000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to improving patient care through education and research.
